Learn a little about me...

Alan and his dog ShonaI experienced many new sights and adventures during my twenty-three years experience in the Royal Navy; I also had the privilege of observing and being a part of many different cultures.

This university of life experience helped me to achieve a wider understanding of people, with regards to their hopes, fears, needs and wants.

Being away from home and family for sometimes up to a year at a time, made me acutely aware of the feelings of missing my family and friends. I made many new friends whilst in the Navy and in many cases these friends became your extended family and somewhat compensated for missing your own family.

Family separations in the armed forces can sometimes be difficult on family relationships and mine was no exception. In consequence I lost contact with my daughter and therefore attempted to find her through various Internet services. There did not seem to be the right service out there to help me and therefore the search proved unsuccessful and hence an idea was born.

It has always been a part of my nature to help people in many ways and I imagined that my need to find my family was replicated in many parts of the world. There are many reasons why family and friends become separated over time and we can too easily let time pass without fully understanding why. But imagine if we could turn the clock back and contact the people we miss.

So the concept of mymissingfriends.com was based on my desire to help people from all over the world find their missing friends and family. I also realised that people worldwide have the enthusiasm to make new pen friends from other cultures apart from their own.

There be can be no greater joy and satisfaction than to be reconnected to your friends and family that you have long been looking for. And if I can help in that adventure, then I have achieved what I set out to do.

Alan
